Bangladesh Inflation Rate Highest in 8 Months
The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh increased to 5.64 percent in June of 2021 from 5.26 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation since October 2020, as inflation quickened for both food (5.45 percent vs 4.87 percent in May) and non-food (5.94 percent vs 5.86 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.31 percent, after a 2.03 percent fall in the previous month.

Bangladesh Inflation Rate Slows in May
Consumer prices in Bangladesh advanced 5.26 percent year-on-year in May of 2021, easing from a 5.56 jump in the previous month, mainly due to a slower pace of food inflation (4.87 percent vs 5.57 percent in April). On the other hand, non-food inflation increased further in May (5.86 percent vs 5.55 in April). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 2.0 percent, following a 0.7 percent gain in the previous month.

Bangladesh January Inflation Rate Slows to 8-Year Low
The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh eased to 5.02 percent in January of 2021 from 5.29 percent in the previous month. It was the lowest inflation rate since September of 2012, amid a slowdown in prices of food (5.23 percent vs 5.34 percent in December) and in non-food products (4.69 percent vs 5.21 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.91 percent, after falling 0.45 percent in the previous month.
