Bahrain Q4 GDP Growth Accelerates to 4.29%
Bahrain’s gross domestic product expanded by 4.29% yoy in Q4 of 2021, accelerating from a 2.1% growth in Q3. This was the third straight of quarter of expansion in the economy, driven by a faster rise in the non-oil sector (4.21% vs 3.76% in Q3), namely electricity & water (9.59% vs 4.36%), real estate & business (4.78% vs 4.67%), and a sharp rebound in hotels and restaurants (31.66% vs -5.64%). Meanwhile, output continued to grow for transportation & communications (11.54% vs 25.78%), agriculture & fishing (10.24% vs12.88%), trade (2.89% vs 4.48 %), other social & personal services (7.11% vs 12.82%), At the same time, the financial services recovered (5.15% vs -2.65%), while government services advanced more (3.09% vs 1.89%). Also, the oil sector rebounded sharply (4.67% vs -4.63% in Q3). On a quarterly basis, the GDP grew by 1.49%, rebounding from a 0.05% fall in Q3. For 2021 full year, the economy grew by 2.22% yoy, recovering from a downwardly revised 4.94% drop in 2020.

Bahrain Economy Continues to Expand in Q3
Bahrain’s gross domestic product advanced by 2.1 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2021, following a 5.7 percent growth in the previous three-month period. This was the second consecutive expansion, boosted by a recovery of 3.76 percent in the non-oil sector, due to the improved performance of the sectors most affected by the pandemic, such as transportation & communications (25.78 percent). Positive contributions to the GDP also came from agriculture & fishing (12.88 percent), electricity & water (4.36 percent), trade (4.48 percent), social & personal services (3.98 percent), real estate & business (4.67 percent). Meanwhile, the oil sector declined by 4.63 percent. On a quarterly basis, the GDP shrank by 0.05 percent.
