Bahrain’s gross domestic product expanded by 5.50% from a year ago in the first quarter of 2022, accelerating from a 4.29% growth in the previous period. This was the fourth consecutive quarter of expansion in the economy, driven by a solid rise in the non-oil sector (7.80% vs 4.21% in Q4), helped by the scrapping of all Covid-19 restrictions in mid-February. Notable growth was observed primarily in hotels & restaurants (26.57% vs 31.66%); financial institutions (24.55% vs 11.15%); transport & communication (15.77% vs 11.54%) and utilities (12.25% vs 9.59%) and manufacturing (5.34% vs 1.80%). Meanwhile, the oil sector shrank 4.74%, after declining 4.78% in the previous period.
