Angola's annual inflation rate accelerated for the eighth straight month to 27% in November of 2021, from 26.9% in the previous month, its highest level since July of 2017. Food inflation remains above 30%, still reflecting the impact of the sharp devaluation of the kwanza last year amid the country's strong dependence on imported goods. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 2.1%, the same pace as in the prior month, mainly driven by prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.4%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.2%); clothing & footwear (2.2%) and furnishings (2.2%).

Angola September Inflation Rate Highest Since 2017
Angola's annual inflation rate increased to 26.6 percent in September of 2021 from 26.1 percent in the previous month, pointing to highest inflation rate since July of 2017, amid the depreciation of the kwanza. On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 2.2 percent, accelerating from 2.1 percent in August. Upward pressure came mostly from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.6 percent); furnishings (2.1 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (2.0 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.0 percent).

The most important components in the CPI are Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages (55.1 percent of total weight); Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuel (11.1 percent) and Clothing and Footwear (7 percent). Miscellaneous Goods and Services account for 6.9 percent of total index, Housing Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House for 6.3 percent, Transport for 3.9 percent and Restaurants and Hotels for 3.2 percent. Health represents 2.5 percent of total weight, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco 2.3 percent, Recreation 1.6 percent and Education 0.01 percent.
