Albania Industry Confidence Hits Over 1-Year High
The industry confidence indicator in Albania jumped to -1.5 in the first quarter of 2021, from -11.0 in the prior period, the highest value since the third quarter of 2019 and the first time above pre-pandemic levels. Improvements were mainly seen in production (7.6 from -12.8 in Q4); order books (-18.8 from -30.6); stock of inventories (-6.7 from -10.4); expectations of selling prices (7.7 from 3.1); and employment expectations (2.5 from -0.1). At the same time, the capacity utilization rate grew to 74.6 percent, from 72.2 percent in the previous quarter.
Albania Industry Confidence Remains Weak in Q3
The industry confidence indicator in Albania increased by 9.7 points from the previous period to -20.3 in the third quarter of 2020, as coronavirus-induced restrictions were gradually lifted. Still, the indicator remains well below pre-pandemic levels. The production balance sub-index jumped by 21.9 points and the gauge for order books rose by 9.9 points. Meanwhile, stock of inventories contributed to the dynamic of the indicator slightly on the downside.

In Albania, the Industrial Confidence Indicator measures entrepreneurs’ sentiment about production expectations, employment, order books and stocks of finished products. The Index is seasonally adjusted and varies between -100 and 100. The ICI equals -100 when there is extreme lack of confidence, 0 indicates neutrality and 100 extreme confidence.
