Tunisia Industrial Production at -3.00 percent


Industrial production in Tunisia declined 3.0 percent from a year earlier in July 2019, after shrinking 4.3 percent in the previous month. This was the eleventh straight month of downturn in industrial activity, led by mining & quarrying (-36.5 percent vs 26.9 percent in June), namely minerals for the chemical industry and natural fertilizers (-39.2 percent vs 35.3 percent) and energy output (-13.1 percent vs -13.2 percent), in particular coke and refined petroleum products (-77.7 percent vs -66.7 percent) and crude oil, natural gas and bituminous products (-6.8 percent vs -9.9 percent). In contrast, production rebounded slightly for manufacturing (1.3 percent vs -1.8 percent), boosted by mechanical & electrical products (2.2 percent vs -2.5 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production rose 6.2 percent, the most in nearly two years, after increasing 0.2 percent in the previous month.
