Slovakia Current Account at -142.20 EUR Million


Slovak current account deficit narrowed to EUR 142.2 million in July 2017 from EUR 300.5 million in the same month of the previous year, as the secondary income gap fell to EUR 77.2 million from EUR 115.2 million in July 2016, and the primary income deficit decreased to EUR 127.9 million from EUR 192.6 million. Also, the goods accounted posted a surplus of EUR 15 million, compared with a deficit of EUR 42.9 million a year ago while the services surplus went down to EUR 48 million from EUR 50.2 million. In the first seven months of the year, the current account gap narrowed to EUR 125.8 million from EUR 290.1 million in the same period of 2016.

Slovakia Inflation Rate at 1.50 percent


Slovak consumer prices increased by 1.5 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, accelerating from a 1.4 percent gain in the previous month and in line with market expectations of 1.5 percent. It is a new high since July 2013, as prices rose at a faster pace for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.4 percent from 4.2 percent in July); recreation and culture (1.8 percent from 1.6 percent); transport (3.5 percent from 3 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (2.6 percent from 2.2 percent) and clothing and footwear (0.4 percent from 0 percent). Meanwhile, cost of housing and utilities declined 1.1 percent, the same as in July. Annual core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, went up to 2.2 percent from 2.1 percent in July. On a monthly basis, both consumer and core consumer prices were flat.
