Inflation rate in Dominican Republic climbed to 4.05 percent year-on-year in April of 2018, above 3.91 percent in the previous month and reaching the highest since December. Prices rose faster mainly for: transport (5.31 percent vs 4.51 percent in March); housing (4.84 percent vs 4.27 percent); restaurants & hotels (2.28 percent vs 2.05 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (6.45 percent vs 6.22 percent). Additional upward pressure came from furnishings (1.33 percent vs 1.18 percent); health (3.80 percent vs 3.74 percent) and communications (5.74 percent vs 5.73 percent). Meantime, inflation slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.90 percent vs 5.36 percent); recreation & culture (2.88 percent vs 2.95 percent) and was steady for miscellaneous goods & services (3.04 percent) and education (5.01 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.40 percent, slightly above a 0.37 percent increase in March.
