Mexico Unemployment Rate Falls for the Second Straight Month


In November of 2013, Mexican jobless rate decreased to 4.47 percent, the lowest rate since December last year, as employment in agriculture and construction rose. In October, unemployment reached 5.01 percent.

Employment in agriculture rose the most in November. Among employed people 41.5 percent were working in services (53 percent last month), 19.4 percent in commerce (26.8 percent in October), 16.1 percent in manufacturing (up from 14.9 percent), 14.2 percent in agriculture (3.9 percent in October) and 7.4 percent in construction (0.7 percent in the previous month).

Regionally, Tamaulipas recorded the highest jobless rate (7.13 percent) and Campeche the lowest one (2.47 percent). In the Federal District, unemployment rate fell to 5.42 percent, from 5.68 percent in October.
