Turkish Jobless Rate Falls to 10.6% in September
The Turkish jobless rate fell to 10.6 percent in September 2017 from 11.3 percent in the same month of the previous year, as the number of unemployed declined by 104 thousand to 3.419 million.
The non-agricultural jobless rate went down to 12.8 percent from 13.7 percent a year earlier, while the youth unemployment rate edged up to 20 percent from 19.9 percent.
Employment increased by 1.233 million to 28.797 million in September, as the non-agricultural sector added 1.036 million jobs and the farm sector added 197 thousand jobs. Employment went up in services (0.4 percentage points) and was unchanged in construction, while it fell in industry (-0.3 percentage points) and agriculture (-0.2 percentage points). The overall employment rate rose to 47.9 percent from 46.8 percent in September 2016.
The labour force went up by 1.128 million to 32.215 million in September, bringing the participation rate to 53.6 percent from 52.8 percent a year ago, while those detached from it rose by 35 thousand to 27.861 million.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate edged down to 10.7 percent from 10.8 percent in the previous month.
