South Korea Unemployment Rate Down to Record Low in November


In November of 2013, South Korean seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 2.9 percent, the lowest rate ever, as healthcare and other service industries added more jobs.

The number of unemployed persons totaled 700 thousand people in November, down by 10 thousand persons or 1.4 percent year-on-year. The economically inactive population decreased by 108 thousand persons to 16,016 thousand.

In November, the number of employed persons reached 25,530 thousand persons, up by 588 thousand persons or 2.4 percent year-on-year.

The economy added 588,000 jobs in November, driven by the health and social services-related sector as well as hospitality and food services-related. The number of regular employees rose 6 percent on the year, while daily workers fell 3.8 percent.
