Swiss Jobless Rate Highest in 8 Months


Swiss unadjusted unemployment rate slightly increased to 3.4 percent in November of 2015 from 3.3 percent in the previous month and above market expectations. It is the highest rate since March, as the number of jobseekers and unemployed went up. Youth unemployment also rose 1.2 percent from a month earlier. 

In November, there were 148,143 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 6.874 more persons than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 11,591 persons (+8.5 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 210,886 in November 2015, more 9,966 persons than in the previous month and 16,994 more than a year earlier (+8.8 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) increased by 244 persons (+1.2 percent) to 20,054. Compared with the previous month, this represents an increase of 1,452 people (+ 7.8 percent).
