South Korea Unemployment Rate Steady at 3% in October


In October of 2013, South Korean seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained stable at 3 percent, the same rate recorded last month and a year earlier. While the number of regular employees continue to increase, part-time, daily contracted and self-employed workers keep declining.

The economically active population marked 26 268 thousand in October, which grew 482 thousand persons or 1.9 percent year-on-year. 

In October, the labor force participation rate stood at 62.2 percent, up 0.4 percent year-on-year and the number of employed persons totaled 25 545 thousand persons, up by 476 thousand persons or 1.9 percent year-on-year.

The number of unemployed persons totaled 724 thousand people in October, which increased 6 thousand persons or 0.8 percent year-on-year.

Jobless rate among those aged between 15 and 29 rose 0.1 percentage point from a month earlier to 7.8 percent last month.
