Week Ahead


In the US, the most important releases will be inflation, retail trade, industrial production and housing data. Investors will also be waiting for: UK inflation, retail sales, unemployment and wages; preliminary estimates of GDP growth for Japan and Germany; China factory output, retail sales and fixed investment; and Australia consumer and business sentiment, employment data and wages.

In the US, the most important releases will be inflation, retail trade and industrial production for October. Investors will also be following building permits and housing starts, producer inflation, import and export prices, business inventories, NFIB Business Optimism Index, NY Empire State Manufacturing Index, Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index, NAHB Housing Market Index, Kansas Fed Manufacturing Index, the government's budget statement and overall net capital flows. 

In the UK, investors will be closely watching inflation, retail sales, unemployment and wages for guidance on Bank of England policy. Elsewhere in Europe, the second estimate of Euro Area third quarter GDP and inflation data for October will be released. Other key data include: Eurozone industrial output and trade balance; Germany and Italy GDP growth; and France unemployment rate.

In Japan, markets will focus on the publication of third quarter GDP data, alongside producer inflation and final figures of industrial production. Meanwhile in China, important data to be released include retail sales, industrial output and fixed asset investments.

In Australia, key data to watch for will be NAB business confidence, Westpac consumer confidence, employment data and wage price index.

Other important releases include: Canada inflation; Malaysia and Philippines GDP growth; Indonesia interest rate decision; and India inflation, trade balance and wholesale prices.
