Swiss Jobless Rate Edges Up to 3.3% in October


Swiss unadjusted unemployment rate slightly increased to 3.3 percent in October of 2015 from 3.2 percent in the previous month and matching market expectations, as the number of jobseekers and unemployed went up. Yet, youth unemployment declined by 3.9 percent from a month earlier.

In October, there were 141,269 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 3,043 more persons than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 8,827 persons (+6.7 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 200,920 in October 2015, more 4,878 persons than in the previous month and 13,205 more than a year earlier (+7.0 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) decreased by 808 persons (-3.9 percent) to 19,810. Compared with the previous month, this represents an increase of 1,089 people (+ 5.8 percent).
