Swiss Jobless Rate Steady at 3.0% for 5th Month


Swiss unadjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.0 percent in October of 2017, the same as in the prior four months. The figure remained at its lowest since October 2014 and in line with market consensus.

In October, there were 134,800 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 1,631 more persons than in the prior month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment declined by 9,731 persons (-6.7 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 198,025, an increase of 4,401 persons compared with September while it decreased by 9,487 compared with the same period last year. 

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) fell by 804 persons to 16,905. Compared to October 2016, this represents a decrease of 2,190 people (-11.5 percent). 

Adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment came in at 3.1 percent, the same as in the prior month.
