Euro Area Inflation Rate Accelerates Slightly in October


Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 0.4 percent in October of 2014, up from 0.3 percent in September, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat. Yet, core inflation rate slowed for the second straight month.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, services is expected to have the highest annual rate in October (1.2 percent, compared with 1.1 percent in September), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (0.5 percent, compared with 0.3 percent in September), non-energy industrial goods (-0.1 percent, compared with 0.2 percent in September) and energy (-1.8 percent, compared with -2.3 percent in September).

Core inflation rate, which strips out prices of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco is expected to slow to 0.7 percent in October from 0.8 percent in the previous month.
