The number of unemployed persons rose by 119 thousand to 3.443 million in July.
The non-agricultural jobless rate stood at 13 percent, also unchanged from a year earlier, and the youth unemployment rate rose to 21.1 percent from 19.8 percent in July 2016.
Employment increased by 1.122 million to 28.758 million in July, as the non-agricultural sector added 827 thousand jobs and the farm sector added 294 thousand jobs. Employment increased in agriculture (0.2 percentage points) and in construction (0.2 percentage points) but fell in industry (-0.4 percentage points) and in services (-0.1 percentage points). The overall employment rate rose to 48 percent from 47 percent in July 2016.
The labour force went up by 1.239 million to 32.200 million, bringing the activity rate to 53.7 percent from 52.7 percent a year ago, while those detached from it decreased by 68 thousand to 27.727 million.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate edged up to 11.2 percent from 11.1 percent in the previous month.
