South Korea Unemployment Rate Drops to 3% in September


In September of 2013, South Korean seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased marginally for the second consecutive month to 3 percent, from 3.1 percent in the previous month, led by job creation in the services sector.

The economically active population increased 1.7 percent year-on-year to 26,186 thousand in September, and the number of employed persons totaled 25,466 thousand, up 1.9 percent yoy. 

Job creation in business, personal and public service increased the most in September (2.9 percent yoy), followed by electricity, transport, telecom and finance (2.8 percent yoy). 

The number of unemployed persons totaled 720 thousand in September, a 4.2 percent decrease over a year earlier. Jobless rate among high school graduates decreased 8.4 percent yoy, while unemployment among college graduates and over went up 7.3 percent.
