South Korea Jobless Rate Stable at 3.5% in September


In September of 2014, South Korean seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was recorded at 3.5 percent, unchanged from the previous month, but higher than 3.0 percent a year earlier.

The number of unemployed people totaled 849 thousand in September, down from 890 thousand compared to a month earlier. The number of employed persons totaled 25910, up from 25,885 a month ago.

Year-on-year, the agriculture sector lost 128 thousand jobs and the financial and insurance sector reduced  37 thousand jobs. In contrast, the manufacturing sector added 173 thousand jobs, the health and social welfare service sector gained 153 thousand and the retail and wholesale increased 151 thousand jobs.

The unemployment rate for those aged 15-29 was 8.1 percent, down from 7.6 percent  a year earlier.
