Swiss Jobless Rate Steady at 3.0% for 4th Month


Swiss unadjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.0 percent in September of 2017, the same as in the prior three months. The figure remained at its lowest since October 2014 and matching market consensus.

In September, there were 133,169 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 2,409 less persons than in the prior month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment declined by 9,506 persons (-6.7 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 193,624, a drop of 1,710 persons compared with August while it decreased by 9,944 compared with the same period last year. 

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) went up by 1,043 persons to 17,709. Compared to September 2016, this represents a decrease of 2,318 people (-11.6 percent). 

Adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment edged down to 3.1 percent from 3.2 percent in the prior five months.
