Turkey’s jobless rate increased to 9.1 percent in June of 2014, up from 8.8 percent in the previous month and above market forecasts.
The number of employed persons amounted to 26 million 586 thousand in June and the employment rate occured at 46.7 percent. 5 million 937 thousand persons were employed in agriculture and 20 million 650 thousand persons worked in the non-agricultural sector. Of those who were employed in June, 22.3 percent worked in agriculture; 20.1 percent was employed in industry; 7.4 percent in construction and 50.3 percent in services.
The ratio of persons who worked without any social security related to the main job was recorded at 36.4 percent in June: 83.6 percent in agriculture sector and 22.8 percent in the non-agriculture sector.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, employment decreased by 96 thousand persons in June and reached 25 million 859 thousand persons compared to the previous period. The number of unemployed persons increased by 115 thousand persons. Youth unemployment rate including 15-24 age group realized as 16.7 percent, unemployment rate for 15-64 age group was recorded at 9.3 percent.
