Angola Inflation Rate Decelerates in August to All-Time Low



In August of 2013, Angolan annual inflation rate slowed for the fourth consecutive month to 8.97 percent, the lowest rate on record.

After reaching 15.1 percent in January of 2011, the annual inflation rate has been steady declining and eased to 8.97 percent in August, from 9.04 percent in July. Inflation a year ago reached 9.87 percent. 

On a month-over-month basis, prices increased 0.54 percent in August, from 0.52 percent recorded in July. Cost of miscellaneous goods and services recorded the highest increase (1.05 percent), followed by prices of restaurants and hotels (1.02 percent) and clothing and footwear (0.93 percent). The index for housing equipment and routine maintenance of the house went up by 0.84 percent. In contrast, prices of education and communication remained unchanged in August.

Cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 0.5 percent in August over the previous month, boosted by higher prices of several local products.
