UK Unemployment Rate Edges Down to 7.7% in July



UK unemployment rate for May to July 2013 was 7.7 percent of the economically active population, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous period. Youth unemployment was registered at 21.0 percent in July, down from 21.6 percent in the previous month.

In UK, there were 2.49 million unemployed people, down 24,000 from February to April 2013. The employment rate for May to July was 71.6 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from February to April 2013. There were 29.84 million people in employment aged 16 and over, up 80,000 from February to April 2013. 

The inactivity rate for was 22.3 percent, down 0.1 percentage points from February to April 2013. There were 8.96 million economically inactive people, down 33,000 from February to April 2013. Between May to July 2012 and May to July 2013 total pay rose by 1.1 percent and regular pay rose by 1.0 percent.

There were 960,000 youth unemployed (16 to 24 year olds), up 9,000 from February to April 2013. For this age group, 3.60 million were in employment, down 77,000 from February to April 2013.
