South Korea Unemployment Rate Down to 3.1% in August


In August of 2013, South Korean seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased marginally to 3.1 percent, after remaining stable at 3.2 percent in the previous three months, led by job creation in the services sector.

The economically active population increased 1.8 percent year-on-year in August, to 26,074 thousand. 

The number of employed people totaled 25,291 thousand (up by 1.7 percent year-on-year) and the employment-population ratio was recorded at 60.0 percent in August, up 0.3 percent yoy.

The number of unemployed people totaled 783 thousand in August, up by 19 thousand people or 2.5 percent over a year earlier.
