Swiss Jobless Rate Edges Up to 3.2% in August


Swiss unadjusted jobless rate slightly increased to 3.2 percent in August of 2015 from 3.1 percent in the previous month and missing market forecasts, as the number of jobseekers and unemployed went up. Youth unemployment also rose 6.4 percent from a month earlier.

In August there were 136,983 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 3,229 more persons than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 8,549 persons (+6.7 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 192,669 in August of 2015, more 1,730 persons than in the previous month and 12,789 more than a year earlier (+7.1 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) increased by 3'377 persons (+ 19.7 percent) to 20'559. Compared with the previous month, this represents an increase of 1,243 people (+ 6.4 percent).
