On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register recorded a monthly decrease of 2,900 persons in August 2014, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 380,100.
In unadjusted terms there were 398,325 people signing on the Live Register in August 2014. This represents an annual decrease of 36,955 (-8.5 percent).
The number of long term claimants on the Live Register in August 2014 was 187,598. The number of male long term claimants decreased by 11,199 (-8.3 percent) in the year to August 2014, while females increased by 1,989 (+3.2 percent), giving an overall annual decrease of 9,210 (-4.7 percent) in the number of long term claimants.
In August 2014, 52.9 percent (210,727) of all claimants on the Live Register were short term claimants. The comparable figure for August 2013 was 54.8 percent (238,472). The annual fall of 27,745 (-11.6 percent) in the number of short term claimants consisted of a decrease of 17,182 (-13.1 percent) in the number of male short term claimants and a decrease of 10,563 (-9.8 percent) in female short term claimants.
