South Korea Jobless Rate Down in July


In July of 2014, South Korean seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down to 3.4 percent from 3.6 percent in the previous month as the number of employed persons increased.

The number of unemployed persons totaled 912 thousand people in July, which increased 84 thousand persons or 10.1 percent year-on-year.

The number of employed persons totaled 25,979 thousand persons in July, up by 505 thousand persons over a year earlier.

The agriculture sector lost 111 jobs from 1,675 in June of 2014 to 1,604 in July this year. On July last year, the sector had 1,715 jobs.

Temporary employees in July added to 5,219 jobs from 5,058 in the previous month. Compared to July of 2013, there were 4,984 persons in the position.

The economically active population marked 26,891 in July of 2014, growing 589 thousand persons or 2.2 percent year-on-year. Those who are inactive were 15,637 thousand people in the month, decreasing 206 thousand persons or 1.3 percent compared to the previous year.
