Swiss Jobless Rate Steady at 3.1% in July


Swiss unadjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.1 percent in July of 2016, the same pace as in June and matching market estimates. The number of unemployed rose slightly while that of jobseekers were down.

In July, There were 139,310 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 183 more persons (+0.1 percent) than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 5,556 persons (+4.2 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 199,347, a decrease of 1,784 persons compared with June while it increased by 8,408 compared with the same period last year (+4.4 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) increased by 1,316 persons (+8.3 percent) to 17,107. Compared with July 2015, this represents a decrease of 75 people (-0.4 percent).

Adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment rate stood at 3.3 percent, unchanged from the previous two months.
