Irish Jobless Rate Unchanged at 5.1% in July


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.1 percent in July of 2018, unchanged from the previous month and down from a 6.8 percent in July of 2017. It remains the lowest jobless rate recorded since October of 2007.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 120,500, down from 120,700 when compared to the previous month figure and a decline of 38,200 when compared with the same month a year earlier.

The unemployment rate for males was recorded at 5.0 percent, lower than a 5.1 percent in June and compared to a 7.1 percent a year ago; while for females it was recorded at 5.2 percent, unchanged from the previous month and down from a 6.4 percent in July of 2017. The number of males unemployed fell by 1,100 from the previous month to 64,000, while the number of females unemployed rose by 900 to 56,500.

The youth unemployment rate increased to 11.7 percent in July from an upwardly revised 11.5 percent in June. 

Unemployment has fallen sharply since the jobless rate hit a high of 16 percent in early 2012.
