On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register showed a monthly decrease of 2,200 males in July 2013, while females decreased by 900 over the same period. In unadjusted terms there were 441,976 people signing on the Live Register in July 2013. This represents an annual decrease of 18,347 (-4.0 percent).
The number of long term claimants on the Live Register in July 2013 was 197,571. The number of male long term claimants decreased by 5,238 (-3.7 percent) in the year to July 2013, while females increased by 2,723 (+4.7 percent) giving an overall annual decrease of 2,515 (-1.3 percent) in the number of long term claimants.
In the year to July 2013 the number of persons aged 25 and over on the Live Register decreased by 10,176 (-2.7 percent), and the number of persons aged under 25 decreased by 8,171 (-10.1 percent). Annual decreases in persons aged under 25 have occurred in all months since July 2010.
