Turkish Jobless Rate Falls to 9.3% in April


The unemployment rate in Turkey declined to 9.3 percent in April of 2016 from 9.6 percent a year earlier and better than market consensus of 9.9 percent. Non-farm unemployment went down to 11.1 percent from 11.6 percent and youth unemployment rate fell to 16 percent from 17 percent.

The number of unemployed persons slightly increased to 2824 thousand from 2821 thousand a year earlier and number of employment persons rose by 1000 thousand to 27638 thousand. There were more 1159 jobs in non-farm sector while the agriculture sector lost 159 thousand jobs. Labour force rose by 1003 persons to 30462, as the number of inactive people went down by 123 thousand, led the participation rate to rise to 52 from 51.1 percent a year earlier. 

On a seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment rose by 14 thousand persons and employment rose by 120 thousand in March compared with the previous month.
