The number of unemployed persons decreased to 2.821 million in April from 3.069 million in March.
Non-farm unemployment was 11.6 percent (12.6 percent in the previous month) and youth unemployment decreased to 17 percent from 18.6 percent in the previous month.
There were 26.638 million employed persons, 685 thousand more than in April, bringing the employment rate up to 46.2 percent. Yet, agriculture lost 67 thousand jobs while the non-farm sector gained 511 thousand.
The labor force participation rate increased by 0.2 percent to 51.1 percent in April. Meanwhile, 28.22 million people were out of the labor force.
