Turkish Unemployment Down to 9.3% in April


In May, Turkey's unadjusted unemployment rate decreased to 9.3 percent from 10.1 percent in March. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the unemployment rate is up by 0.3 percentage points. Youth unemployment decreased 0.3 percentage points to 18.3 percent.

The number of employed increased by 1,061 thousand persons compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 25,691 thousand persons in April. Agricultural employment increased by 47 thousand persons and non-agricultural employment increased by 1,014 thousand persons in this period. 

Labour force participation rate was 51.1 percent, up by 1.5 percentage points and the employment rate was registered at 46.4 percent, up by 1.2 percentage points. The highest increase in employment by economic activity was registered in industry with a rise of 82 thousand persons.

Male labour force participation rate reached 71.6 percent, a 1.0 percentage points increase, while the female labour force participation rate rose to 31.2 percent, up 2.0 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year. The ratio of persons who worked without any social security related to the main job declined to 37.6 percent, down 1.2 percentage points.
