Irish Jobless Rate Steady at 7.8%


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was recorded at 7.8 percent in June 2016, unchanged from the May rate and down from 9.4 percent a year earlier. It stood at its lowest level since October 2008, as the number of unemployed was virtually unchanged.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 169,100, a decrease of 500 when compared to the previous month's figure or a decrease of 34,600 when compared to June 2015. 

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for males fell to 9.1 percent, down from 9.2 percent in the previous month and down from 10.7 percent a year earlier, while for females it was unchanged at 6.2 percent from May and decreased from 8.1 percent in June 2015. The number of males unemployed dropped by 1,100 to 107,800 from 108,900 in the previous month, while the number of females unemployed increased by 700 to 61,300 from 60,600.

Youth unemployment rate fell to 15.3 percent, up from 15.1 percent in May.
