Turkish Unemployment Rate Up to 9.4% in March


In the period of March 2013, the seasonally adjusted number of employed persons increased by 54 thousand and the number of unemployed persons increased by 39 thousand, compared to the previous period. Seasonally adjusted, labor force participation rate was 51.1 percent and the employment rate was 46.3 percent. The unemployment rate was 9.4 percent, a 0.2 percentage points increase.

Of those who were employed in March 2013: 22.9 percent was employed in agriculture; 19.8 percent was employed in industry; 6.4 percent was employed in construction and 50.9 percent was employed in services. Employment in construction increased by 0.5 percentage points and services increased by 0.2 percentage points while that of agriculture decreased by 0.7 percentage points and industry realized no change. 

Labor force participation rate (LFPR) was recorded at 50.2 percent, a 1.6 percentage points increase compared to the same period of the previous year. LFPR was 70.8 percent with 1.0 percentage points increase for male and 30.2 percent with 2.3 percentage points increase for female, compared to March of 2012.
