Australia Jobless Rate Steady for 3rd Month in May

Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.7 percent in May of 2016, unchanged from the previous two months and matching market consensus. The economy added 17,900 jobs and the number of unemployed increased by 1,600.

The seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate came in at 64.8 percent, the same as in the preceding month.

Employment rose to 11,930,700: full-time employment remained steady at  8,156,500 and part-time employment increased by 17,900 to 3,774,200.

Unemployment increased to 726,400. The number of unemployed persons looking for full-time work decreased 6,200 to 509,200 and the number of unemployed persons only looking for part-time work increased by 7,800 to 217,200.

Seasonally adjusted aggregate monthly hours worked in all jobs increased 27.7 million hours to 1,643.1 million hours.
