Swiss Unemployment Rate Down to 3%


Switzerland’s unadjusted jobless rate fell for the third month in a row to 3 percent in May of 2014 from 3.2 percent in the previous period, but the number of job vacancies also decreased.

When adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment rate stood at 3.2 percent, unchanged from the previous month.

There were 130310 people registered as unemployed in May, down from 137087 in April and 131290 a year earlier. Meanwhile, the number of job vacancies fell to 13157 in May from 14088 in April and 14808 in May of 2013.

Youth unemployment decreased by 1323 persons (-7.9 percent) to 15399. Compared to the same month last year, it decreased by 6.5 percent.

According to preliminary data, 2648 people have exhausted their entitlements to unemployment insurance in March of 2014, less than 2822 people in February.
