Germany Inflation Rate at 7-Month High


Consumer prices in Germany are expected to increase 0.7 percent year-on-year in May, following a 0.5 percent rise in the previous month and in line with market expectations. Energy cost fell at a slower pace while prices of services and food accelerated.

According to preliminary estimates, energy prices are likely to fall 5.0 percent, compared to a 5.9 percent drop in April. Food cost is estimated to rise 1.4 percent after a 1.2 percent increase in April. In addition, prices of services are expected to accelerate slightly to 1.5 percent from 1.4 percent in April. 

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are estimated to increase 0.1 percent. 

The harmonised consumer price index is expected to be up 0.7 percent in May 2015 year on year. Compared with April 2015, it is expected to rise by 0.1 percent.
