Irish Jobless Rate Down to Fresh 7-1/2-Year Low


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was recorded at 7.8 percent in May 2016, down from 7.9 percent in April and 9.6 percent a year earlier. The jobless rate fell for the sixth consecutive month to the lowest since October 2008, reflecting the strengthening of the economic recovery.

The number of unemployed persons fell by 1500 or 0.1 percent to 167,700 in May from April. Compared to a year earlier, jobless went down 1.8 percent.

Youth unemployment rate fell to 15 percent from 5.3 percent in April and 20.8 percent a year earlier. There were 27,900 unemployed people aged 15 to 24.
