Euro Area Inflation Rate Up to 1.4% in April


Euro Area annual inflation is expected to be 1.4 percent in May 2013, up from 1.2 percent in April, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, food, alcohol and tobacco is expected to have the highest annual rate in May (3.3 percent compared with 2.9 percent in April), followed by services (1.4 percent compared with 1.1 percent in April), non-energy industrial goods (0.9 percent compared with 0.8 percent in April) and energy (-0.2 percent compared with -0.4 percent in April).

Annual core inflation rate (excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) is expected to edge up to 1.2 percent from 1.0 percent a month earlier.
