German Inflation Rate Up to 1.5% in May


Consumer prices in Germany are expected to rise by 1.5 percent in May 2013 compared with May 2012. Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office also reports that the consumer prices are expected to increase by 0.4 percent on April 2013.

The expected increase in food prices (+5.3 percent) will be markedly higher than the overall inflation rate. Overall goods are set to grow 1.9 percent with energy prices rising 1.5 percent. Services are expected to be up by 1.5 percent.

The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 1.7 percent in May 2013 on May 2012. Compared with April 2013, it is expected to increase by 0.3 percent.
