Australia Jobless Rate Steady at 5.7% in April


Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.7 percent in April of 2016, unchanged from the figure in March and slightly below consensus of 5.8 percent. The economy added 10,800 jobs and the number of unemployed increased by 400.

The seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate came in at 64.8 percent from 64.9 percent the preceding month.

Employment rose to 11,917,200: full-time employment decreased 9,300 to 8,165,600 and part-time employment increased by 20,200 to 3,751,600.

Unemployment increased to 723,300. The number of unemployed persons looking for full-time work remained steady at 515,000 and the number of unemployed persons only looking for part-time work increased by 400 to 208,200.

Seasonally adjusted aggregate monthly hours worked in all jobs decreased 17.9 million hours to 1,613.8 million hours.
