South Korea Unemployment Rate Up to 3.7%


South Korean seasonally adjusted jobless rate increased to 3.7 percent in April of 2014, from 3.5 percent in the previous month. The number of new jobs added fell for the second consecutive month.

The number of unemployed persons totaled 1,030 thousand in April, which increased 205 thousand persons or 24.9 percent year-on-year.

The number of employed persons totaled 25,684 thousand persons in April, which went up 2.3 percent year-on-year.

The wholesale and retail sector was the biggest job creator, adding 303,000 more jobs in April compared with the same month last year. In contrast, jobs in agriculture and construction fell 1.8 percent and 0.2 percent respectively.  

The number of regular employees increased 4.6 percent yoy to 12148 thousand while the number of daily and self-employed workers decreased by 6 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
