Switzerland Jobless rate Edges Down to 3.5% in April


Switzerland unadjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.5 percent in April of 2016 from 3.6 percent in March and in line with expectations as the number of unemployed and jobseekers were down.

In April, there were 149,540 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 5,784 less persons than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment increased by 8,409 persons (+6.0 percent). 

The number of jobseekers reached 210,926, less 7,261 persons than in the previous month and 11,580 more than a year earlier (+5.8 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year old) decreased by 1,036 persons (-5.5 percent) to 17,871. Compared to April 2015, this represents an increase of 389 people (+2.2 percent).

Adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment rate stood at 3.5 percent, following a downwardly revised 3.4 percent in a month earlier.
