Swiss Unemployment Rate Falls in April


Switzerland’s jobless rate fell for the second consecutive month to 3.2 percent in April of 2014 from 3.3 percent in the previous month. When adjusted for seasonal factors, the unemployment rate stood at 3.2 percent, unchanged from the previous month.

There were 137087 people registered as unemployed in April, 5759 less than in the previous month, but 1236 more (0.9 percent) than in the same month of the previous year.

Youth unemployment decreased by 1132 persons (-6.3 percent) to 16722. Compared to the same month last year, it decreased by 1090 persons (-6.1 percent). 

A total of 192829 job seekers were registered in April, 7082 less than in the previous month, but 1.3 percent more than in April of 2013. The number of job vacancies decreased by 653 to 14088 places.

According to preliminary data, 2822 people have exhausted their entitlements to unemployment insurance in the month of February of 2014.
