Turkey Inflation Rate At 2-Year High in April


Turkish annual inflation rate quickened to 9.38 percent in April of 2014, up from 8.39 percent in the previous month, driven by higher food and transport cost.

The highest annual increase was recorded for transport prices (13.84 percent). Cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 13.15 percent; hotels, cafes and restaurants advanced 12.48 percent; education 10.37 percent and prices of furnishings and household equipment rose 8.84 percent. 

On a monthly basis, the inflation rate acceleratedto 1.34 percent. Cost of clothing and footwear recorded the highest increase (13.1 percent), followed by prices of furnishings and household equipment (1.57 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.42 percent), education (0.97 percent) and health (0.93 percent). In contrast, transport cost fell 0.54 percent and prices of miscellaneous goods and services decreased 0.10 percent.
