Ireland Unemployment Rate Stable at 14% in April


The standardised unemployment rate in April 2013 was 14.0 percent, unchanged from the March 2013 rate. On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 100 in April 2013, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 426,900.

There were 88,909 casual and part-time workers on the Live Register in April, which represents 21.3 percent of the total Live Register. This compares with 20.6 percent one year earlier when there were 88,442 casual and part-time workers on the Live Register.

In the year to April 2013 the number of persons aged 25 and over on the Live Register decreased by 6,447 (-1.8 percent), and the number of persons aged under 25 decreased by 5,961 (-8.4 percent). Annual decreases in persons aged under 25 have occurred in all months since July 2010. 
 
The percentage of persons aged under 25 on the Live Register now stands at 15.6 percent for April 2013, down from 16.5 percent in April 2012 and 18.1 percent in April 2011.
