Japan Unemployment Rate Down to 4.1% in March


Japan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.1 percent in March from 4.3 percent reported in February.

The number of employed persons in March 2013 was 62.46 million, an increase of 310 thousand or 0.5 percent from the previous year. 

In March, compared to the previous month, the employment rose in Agriculture and Forestry, Manufacturing, Living-related and personal services, Information and communications, Transport and postal activities and Wholesale and retail trade. The biggest job losses were reported for Medical, health care and welfare; Accommodations, eating and drinking services, Government services and Scientific research, professional and technical services.

The number of unemployed persons in March 2013 was 2.8 million, a decrease of 270 thousand or 8.8 percent from the previous year.

The highest unemployment rates were recorded for 15 to 24 years old (8.2%) and 25 to 34 years old (5.8%).
