Mexico Jobless Rate at Nearly 8-Year Low


Mexico unemployment rate came in at 3.74 percent in March of 2016, down from 4.15 percent in February and reaching the lowest value since May of 2008.

Compared to the previous month, unemployment fell for both men (3.82 percent from 4.03 percent) and women (3.6 percent from 4.34 percent). Among unemployed, 19.7 percent had not completed secondary education and 80.3 percent had a higher education level.

Upon seasonal adjustment, the unemployment rate went down to 4.2 percent from 4.3 percent in February. The labor force participation rate fell by 0.4 p.p. to 59.0 percent. 95.8 percent were working while 7.9 percent said could work more hours.

A year earlier, unemployment rate was higher at 3.86 percent.
