Russia Jobless Rate Drops to 5% in March as Expected


Russian unemployment rate fell to 5 percent in March 2018 from 5.4 percent in the same month of the previous year, and in line with market expectations.

The number of unemployed people declined by 304 thousand to 3.808 million in March from 4.112 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Compared to February, the number of unemployed was unchanged.

Real wages in Russia rose 6.5 percent year-on-year in March, easing from a revised 10.5 percent jump in the previous month and way below market expectations of 8.8 percent. Average nominal wages surged 9 percent to RUB 41,650 while annual inflation rate stood at 2.4 percent, close to the previous month's record low. Meanwhile, real disposable personal income in Russia increased by 4.1 percent in March, following a 4.3 percent growth in the previous month.
